Area jobless numbers were substantially lower from May to June.
Emporia’s jobless rate saw a significant dip from 7.5 percent in May to 5.8 percent in June. It was as high as 7.7 percent in April.
Lyon County’s rate dropped from 7.7 percent in April to 7.2 percent in May and 5.5 percent in June.

After peaking over 11 percent in April and hitting 10 percent in May, June’s unemployment figure statewide is 7.5 percent. Seasonally adjusted total nonfarm jobs increased by over 30,000 from May to June. Private sector jobs, a subset of nonfarm jobs, increased by the same amount.
