Emporia Fire Crews were able to quickly extinguish a minor fire which developed Thursday evening just outside the Emporia city limits.
Fire Crews were called to 3 Lakeshore Drive in Thorndale, 4.5 miles east of Emporia, shortly before 7:50 pm for a reported structure fire. According to Battalion Chief Eron Steinlage, the owner of the residence was using a smoker when a wood pile nearby caught fire.
The fire then spread under the siding on the front of the house. Steinlage says crews had to tear into the siding in order to reach the fire.
The front of the home suffered significant damage, including a six foot by six foot hole in the front of the residence. No injuries were reported.
