Governor Laura Kelly will stop near Emporia next week to note the start of a major road construction project.
Kelly, along with Transportation Secretary Julie Lorenz and local officials, will break ground Monday on a delayed T-WORKS project to widen part of US Highway 50 west of Emporia. This project will turn US-50 from a two-lane road to a four-lane road between Roads E-5 and F.
T-WORKS was a 10-year, $8-billion highway preservation and economic development project that since been supplanted by the Eisenhower Legacy transportation program (IKE), formally known as the FORWARD program. The most recent T-WORKS plan was to invest $25 million to widen the highway just west of Emporia and add as many passing lanes as possible between Emporia and Hutchinson.
The ceremony will be at 10 am.
