A new protocol system is coming to the Lyon County Emergency Communications Center following Lyon County Commission approval Thursday morning.
Last week, LCECC Director Roxanne Van Gundy submitted a request to ProQA Emergency Medical and Emergency Fire online dispatch protocols for the center. The item was tabled to allow time for Van Gundy to clear up a venue selection clause in the project’s contract.
The project will take all of the center’s medical protocols, which are currently in a card format, add in the fire protocols and switch them to a digital format. Van Gundy says the addition of the fire protocols will require additional training for communications center staff members as they have not previously had them in their repertoire.
The total cost of the project is just over $154,000 with a portion being covered by an NG911 grant and the remainder coming out of 911 funds. Van Gundy says implementation of the new system will likely begin by the end of this year so as to not overlap with the ongoing city/county emergency radio project.
County Commissioners spent the remainder of their meeting in executive sessions. The Lyon County Commission will reconvene for their weekly action session next Thursday inside the Lyon County Courthouse.
