Last week’s heavy rainfall helped to shift the moderate drought now evident across the KVOE listening area. It did not eliminate the drought now in place areawide.
Currently, moderate drought covers almost all of Lyon and Coffey counties, as well as the eastern quarter of Chase County, most of eastern Greenwood County and small slivers of Morris and Osage counties. Last week, most of Chase County was covered, along with northeast Greenwood, southern Coffey and far southwest Lyon counties.
Most area residents got anywhere from half an inch to 1.6 inches of rainfall July 9, followed by a quarter-inch or less this past Wednesday.
