The start of the Kansas High School fall sports season will be delayed until September 9th.
Kansas Governor Laura Kelly has announced that she will issue an executive order on Monday delaying the start of school until September 9th. She said the delay includes the start of the fall sports season.
The Kansas State High School Activities Association was scheduled to release guidelines about the upcoming season on Friday with fall practices beginning August 17th.
But due to the governors announcement KSHSAA will not send out their recommendations.
They will “go back and look at models and plans that are in place with a delayed start and release information when appropriate.” according to a release sent to schools.
The exact timeline for the start of practices and games will be released when KSHSAA has it finalized.
The fall sports season includes 7 sports:
Football, volleyball, boys soccer, gymnastics, cross country, girls tennis and girls golf.
At Emporia High the girls golf season was scheduled to start August 27th. Boys Soccer would start August 28th. The football season was slated to kick-off September 4th against Hayden. The rest of the sports were scheduled to begin the first full week of September.
