Not surprisingly, CrossWinds Counseling and Wellness offices have been busy since the coronavirus pandemic started about four months ago. They remain busy at this time.
On KVOE’s Newsmaker segment Monday, Chief Executive Officer Amanda Cunningham said overall numbers have remained steady since the pandemic started in March. New referrals and crisis calls are increasing at this time, and Cunningham says the distancing needed to keep physically healthy may be causing some concerns with mental and emotional well-being.
Given social distancing, more appointments have been held online through Zoom. Cunningham says that is a good asset now and will be a good asset moving forward. CrossWinds maintains a COVID-19 hotline for emergency calls, although that hasn’t been used as much as first expected. Small therapy groups and CrossWinds’ Mental Health First Aid classes are resuming, and discussions continue about best practices for keeping staffers and clients safe.
Cunningham encouraged people to keep their daily routines as best as possible — especially with sleep, eating and movement — and she encouraged people to monitor their loved ones for signs of stress.
