The Emporia Senior Baseball team finished in 2nd place in the Sam Ellis Classic played over the weekend in Emporia.
The 19s were out scored by the Topeka Scrappers 5-1 in the championship game Sunday. The Scrappers would score 4 of the runs in the 1st inning and held the 19s at bay until the 7th inning. Thats when Emporia scored their lone run and left the bases loaded.
Coach Anthony Markowitz was pleased with the way they continued to battle.
To advance to the Championship game the 19s out scored Gladstone 5-3 in the semi-finals. Kadyn Williams hit an inside the park home run in the 4th and tripled an scored in the 6th inning providing the difference in the game.
The Emporia Seniors finished the tournament with a 3-1 record.
Coach Markowitz called it a good weekend.
The Emporia Seniors are now 15-7 for the season.
They will close out their season with a doubleheader Wednesday against Newton and a doubleheader Friday against Iola.
