Flint Hills Technical College will be welcoming back students for face-to-face classes on Aug. 17.
The college announced its plans to move forward with in-person classes via a news release Tuesday morning. The release states “One of the most unique and important aspects of technical education is the hands-on experience for our students.”
FHTC President Dr. Dean Hollenbeck agrees with this statement and says that the hands-on learning their students receive is vital to their success upon entering the workforce.
While the return of in-person classes will be a step towards a return to normalcy for the college and its students, Hollenbeck says it will not be completely like before. The college will be instituting several mitigation strategies to help protect the health and well being of staff and students alike.
All staff and students will be required to wear masks, practice proper social distancing and complete a health screening before entering the facility.
Hollenbeck says while they’re planning for a full year of in-person face-to-face classes, the college is prepared for if schools and higher education institutions are forced to close their doors much like back in March when the COVID-19 pandemic’s impact began to be felt locally. Hollenbeck says a return to virtual classes could work for some departments and negatively impact others depending on curriculum requirements.
The college is currently open for enrollment of new students. Prospective students are asked to schedule an enrollment appointment with the office of Student Services by calling 620-343-4600, ext. 2 or emailing admissions@fhtc.edu.
