People interested in Lyon County’s ongoing discussion on zoning regulations will want to be part of the Lyon County Planning and Appeals Board’s upcoming meeting this week.
The Planning Board meets at 7 pm Wednesday at the Courthouse Annex, 402 Commercial, and the main agenda item is the third draft of the proposed city-county zoning regs. This comes as the county is shifting to work on a fourth draft, and County Zoning Administrator Sam Seeley says the goal is to make the fourth draft the final draft before the new zoning regs are approved.
There are some notable aspects of the zoning regulations as the process moves forward. Properties under 40 acres in rural settings used to be considered as non-agricultural. Those could be considered either as ag or non-ag, depending on how the property is used. Rezoning will be needed for new industrial and commercial uses, while proposed subdivision regulations will apply to new subdivisions. New telecommunications towers will follow state statutes, while new conditional use permits will follow the current county zoning process.
The Metropolitan Planning Area Zoning Board and Metropolitan Zoning Appeals Board are also set to be dissolved.
