Flint Hills Community Health Center’s new Medical Clinic Director officially reintroduced herself to the Emporia community during KVOE’s Newsmaker 3 segment Thursday.
On Jun. 8, Dr Vanessa Cook officially assumed her new role as the center’s medical clinic director and is continuing to adjust to her new, yet familiar surroundings, as she has been steadily seeing patients for over a month now. A board-certified family practice physician, Dr. Cook says she simply enjoys taking care of families.
Cook is no stranger to the local community as she held a previous practice in Emporia before moving to Atlantic, IA with her husband Steve where they lived for seven years.
Cook and her husband then relocated to Wamego where she worked at Ascension Via Christi before returning to Emporia. Cook says the Health Center’s dedication to serving the local community was a major factor in her return to Emporia.
She says there were a number of factors that brought her back to the community, but chief among those was FHCHC’s commitment to providing the best service possible to their patients.
Additionally, Dr. Cook says she is happy with the level of support on hand at the health center, especially with the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Dr. Cook replaces Dr. Melanie Byram who took over the Medical Clinic Director on an interim basis following the retirement of Dr. James Fast back in December.
