Coronavirus has claimed part of the Lyon County Fair. It has also claimed parts of other area county fairs.
Chase County Fair Board members decided to cancel the event all open-class exhibits, fashion revue, carnival, 4-H Olympics, fun night and livestock sale in the best interest of health and safety for all involved. The Fair Board is planning to allow all 4-H entries that will be judged, but spectators are highly discouraged and only judges, superintendents, Extension Office staff and Fair Board members will be allowed inside buildings during the fair.
The Fair Board says it is officially postponing what would have been the 100th annual fair. The planning effort now is on the “99.5 Chase County Fair: A Nontraditional Fair Due to COVID-19.”
The Coffey County Fair Board will not have a carnival after its vendor said it would not perform at all this summer. Other events are still on tap at last word.
The Greenwood County Fair has canceled open-class exhibits, the health fair and the 4-H rabbit show. Social distancing and mask use is encouraged, extra hand sanitizer stations will be set up through the event and livestock shows will be livestreamed on Facebook.
