After postponing activities from May to July, organizers of Emporia’s Cinco de Mayo have now canceled the event outright for this year.
Organizer Sally Sanchez says the event may be canceled, but the work of Hispanics of Today and Tomorrow continues. Sanchez expects a lot of energy around next year’s event because the plans for this year have been canceled.
Organizers had announced royalty candidates last month and were planning a full day of food, entertainment, contests, live music and recognition of scholarship award winners. The coronation and scholarship announcement will be at 2 pm July 11 and will be livestreamed on the Hispanics of Today and Tomorrow Facebook page.
