The past week has been busy at Newman Regional Health’s Emergency Department when it comes to heat illnesses.
Dr. Aaron Watters says he has seen several heat illness cases already this week, mostly heat exhaustion but also a few cases of heatstroke. He says it’s vitally important to get in lots of the right kind of fluids — but it’s also important to pace yourself in the process.
Also, be sure to spend lots of time in air conditioning or shade and use light, loose-fitting clothes.
Air temperatures will be in the mid-90s through Friday. Heat index readings could be as high as 103-107 degrees Wednesday, with more oppressive conditions south of Emporia. Heat index readings will be slightly lower for the rest of the week.
