Construction at the David Traylor Zoo now means a bit of a detour for patrons.
Mitchell Markowitz Construction has closed Soden Road on the north side of the facility for the next two months. Parking is available in Sodens Grove Park just southwest of the zoo itself and at the All Veterans Memorial across Commercial Street. Residents wanting to go to the Zoo Education Center need to use Logan Avenue to get to South Exchange Street and then drive south to the zoo.
As construction continues as part of the $4.3 million Oasis capital campaign, social distancing guidelines remain in effect inside the zoo to limit any potential for coronavirus. Masks are highly recommended to protect both people and animals. Hand sanitizer is to be used when entering the zoo. People are also told to use the social distancing paw prints to safely view the animals. Groups larger than 15 people are not allowed.
The Preston Forest Adventure is closed until further notice, although the Zoo Education Center classroom reopens Wednesday.
