That Saharan dust cloud you have been hearing about all week? There is an outside chance it could affect parts of Kansas in more ways than just sunsets the next few days.
The Kansas Department of Health and Environment says the particulate matter from the dust cloud can cause health issues, even in healthy people. Common health issues can include burning eyes, runny nose, coughing and bronchitis. People with respiratory issues, pre-existing heart or lung issues, children and elderly may have worse symptoms than others.
Currently, according to TV-13 meteorologist Jeremy Goodwin, the main dust cloud will likely swing east or southeast of the KVOE listening area and may stay out of Kansas altogether. However, healthy people should limit or avoid strenuous exercise the next few days to be safe. Also, people with respiratory or heart-related medical issues should remain indoors. If you have chest pain or tightness, shortness of breath or severe fatigue, call your doctor.
