Emporia Main Street has received the highest recognition available from Main Street America for its innovative work in the local community.
Emporia Main Street has been designated as a 2020 Accredited Main Street America program joining over 800 other national main street programs in having received the honor. Main Street Director Casey Woods says the accreditation showcases Emporia’s high standards for economic development and growth.
Woods says this is a quality he believes can be very enticing for future businesses looking to take up roots in Emporia.
Woods says the COVID-19 pandemic has created a number of difficulties for the organization over the past several months. However, he adds the pandemic has also showcased the importance of innovation and adaptivity in times of uncertainty.
Last year alone, Main Street America communities helped to generate $6.45 billion worth of public and private reinvestment, opened 6,466 new businesses, created 32,316 new were jobs and rehabilitated 10,412 buildings.
