Ridership is on the increase for Lyon County Area Transportation.
Coronavirus had pushed ridership down from around 1,000 patrons a week to around 200 to 250 people per week at one point and was around 330 for the last week in May. Once LCAT returned to normal operating hours earlier this month, ridership has been going up, with 416 riders June 1-7 and 488 riders from June 8-14.
Finance Officer Shane Brunner says coronavirus had caused a lot of adjustments on buses, from work schedules to roping off seats and adding shower curtains.
Coronavirus came at a time when interest in distance travel was increasing. LCAT now takes riders as far away as Oklahoma for rides.
Both Brunner and Transportation Manager Janice Arb say the pandemic has caused LCAT officials to discuss new routes or route adjustments, and those will be announced as they are finalized. Both also say a rebranding for the buses themselves is still in the works, although the timetable for that is still to be determined.
The logo officially changed in 2018 but hasn’t transferred yet to the buses. The logo last changed in 2012.
