An unnamed Lyon County Detention Officer is currently in home isolation after testing positive for COVID-19.
The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office announced the positive case via a news release Thursday afternoon. Lyon County Sheriff Jeff Cope says the positive result became known on Wednesday and the Sheriff’s Office is working with KDHE and Lyon County Public Health to address any possible exposures within the Sheriff’s Office.
All inmates and staff utilizing the facility will undergo testing to help identify any other potentially positive cases.
The Sheriffs Office instituted a number of changes back in mid-March to help prevent any potential COVID-19 exposure to both staff and inmates. This includes mandatory wearing of masks within the building, a policy that remains in place at this time.
Cope says a recent review of the office’s mitigation strategies and efforts from KDHE and public health determined the risk of transmission is low within the office.
