A motorcycle rider sustained minor injuries after colliding with a deer west of Emporia on Tuesday.
Emporia Fire, Lyon County deputies and Kansas Highway Patrol troopers were dispatched to US Highway 50 just west of the Lyon-Chase county line shortly before 10:50 am. Deputy Zach Shafer says a man was driving a motorcycle westbound when a deer left the north ditch and began crossing the highway. The motorcycle driver could not avoid the deer.
The driver had non-life-threatening injuries and declined a trip to a hospital afterward. Firefighters say the use of a helmet and proper clothing saved the driver from further injury.
