Area jobless rates continue at a high level as coronavirus continues impacting the Kansas economy.
Emporia’s jobless rate for May is at 7.5 percent, down slightly from the 7.7 percent mark in April. Lyon County’s mark was at 7.2 percent for May, down from 7.5 percent for April.
Most area counties — Lyon, Chase, Coffey, Greenwood and Osage — have unemployment numbers between 7 and 8 percent. Morris County is at 5.4 percent. Wabaunsee County is at 6.3 percent. Aside from Lyon County, all area county jobless numbers were down at least a point from April to May and, in the case of Chase County, the jobless percentage was down nearly 3 points.
The state’s jobless rate for May is 10 percent, down from 11.9 percent in April.
