Extended unemployment benefits are now available for Kansas residents needing help.
The Kansas Department of Labor says the extended benefits offer federal reimbursement to the state for up to 13 weeks of unemployment benefits. These will be available by the end of this month, according to Kansas Labor Secretary Delia Garcia.
Extended benefits have been available since 1971 and are triggered when unemployment is above 5 percent and several federal requirements are met. In normal times, claimants can receive up to 16 weeks of benefits. Kansas temporarily extended benefits an additional 10 weeks for claimants filing on or after Jan. 1, 2020.
Claimants that use all their normal benefits, Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation and extended benefits would then qualify for Pandemic Unemployment Assistance. More information is online at www.GetKansasBenefits.gov.
