The Osage County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after the discovery of a human bone near Lyndon.
Sheriff Laurie Dunn says the bone was discovered early Tuesday afternoon near 205th and Lewelling Road, on Corps of Engineers property about eight miles northwest of Lyndon. The Osage County Coroner’s Office and a forensic anthropologist looked at the bone and determined it was indeed human.
A search developed through early Wednesday, involving game wardens from the Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism; the Mission Township Fire Department’s dive team; Missouri Search and Rescue K-9 unit; and a cadaver dog from the Kansas State Fire Marshal’s Office. Nothing else of note was found in the area.
The age of the bone hasn’t been determined and, due to last year’s flooding, it is not known where the bone may have come from. It may be two to three months before any specifics about the bone are announced.
