Lyon County Crime Stoppers has announced a reward of up to $1,000 as an investigation into stolen flags continues.
Emporia Police is investigating after an American flag and a POW/MIA flag were both stolen from the American Legion Post 5, 2921 West 12th, earlier this week. The club mentioned the theft may have taken place early Monday, but a Crime Stoppers news release says the theft could have happened between 11 pm Sunday and an unlisted time Tuesday.

4 am Thursday: American Legion’s Emporia post reports stolen United States, POW flags
An investigation is underway after somebody stole two flags from the American Legion Post 5 this week.
Club member Ron Whitney says the United States flag and the Prisoners of War flag were both stolen from the post’s flag pole shortly after 3 am Monday. The club is looking over surveillance video to determine who stole the flags.
Whitney encouraged the thief or thieves to return the flags to the Legion as soon as possible, saying the club would accept them “no questions asked.” If you have information, call Emporia Police at 343-4200.
