The Emporia splash pad is back and parents and children alike couldn’t be more excited.
The pad reopened to the public at 10 am Saturday and children and parents flocked to Peter Pan Park to cool off on a day where temperatures were in the low to mid 90’s. The splash pad is just the second public area to open back up following the COVID-19 pandemic after the city of Emporia reopened all playgrounds late last month.
One local mother says her child was bursting at the seams with excitement to get to the park Saturday.
Local resident Naomi Aranda says the splash pad is not only giving kids a place to cool off this summer, but it’s also providing them with some much needed social interaction after months of being cooped up at home.
The splash pad is sure to see plenty of use throughout the summer after the Emporia Recreation Commission announced last month that the Jones Aquatic Center would not be opening up for the 2020 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The splash pad will be open once again from 10 am to 8 pm Sunday and noon to 8 pm Monday. A full summer schedule has yet to be announced.
