Kansas has now developed a statewide testing strategy to continue combating COVID-19.
Governor Laura Kelly rolled out the new strategy during her second weekly press conference Thursday afternoon. According to Governor Kelly the formal strategy comes as Kansas has seen a “drastic increase” in the availability of labs to conduct testing across the state.
Kelly says the new strategy includes a set of priorities, recommendations and strategies for increasing testing with the first strategy focusing on “implementation.”
According to Kelly, the “testing target” or goal for the state is two percent which equates to roughly 60,000 tests per month through the end of 2020. Kelly says in order to reach that target, the governor says the US Health and Human Services Agency will be providing “large quantities” of testing supplies to assist with the increased testing demand.
Governor Kelly adds that the new strategy will utilize four significant types of testing facilities.
Governor Kelly concluded her remarks by stating “today’s announcement will continue to aid Kansas in the progress that will allow us to return to normal, but we must do so safely so that the sacrifices that all have made will not have been in vain.”
Governor Kelly is scheduled to hold her next news briefing at 4 pm Monday. You can listen to the briefing in its entirety on KVOE 1400 am, 969. fm and KVOE.com.
