Former Emporia State University athlete Heather Leverington Dotterer is headed to the Kansas Sports Hall of Fame.
Emporia State University Athletics made the announcement Tuesday that the former ESU track star will be inducted into the KSHOF as a member of the 2020 class. Touted as “arguably the greatest shot putter in NCAA Division II Championship history,” Leverington claimed five national championships in shot put and nine MIAA championships in both shot put and the hammer throw from 1999-2001.
Leverington was also twice named the Emporia State Female Student-Athlete of the Year, was named the 2002 NCAA Kansas Woman of the Year, and was inducted into the Emporia State Athletics Hall of Honor in 2012.
The formal ceremony will be Oct. 4 at the Kansas Star Casino in Mulvane.
