The NBA is targeting an end of the season no later than Oct. 12, according to sources.
The league is considering a plan that would resume the season July 31 in Orlando. That would start a 22-game slate to close out the regular season, leading to a play-in setup before the playoffs — which could involve the 16 teams currently in position for a playoff spot and six teams within six games of the final playoff spot when the season halted due to coronavirus.
The NBA draft and free agency could follow in October.
The NBA’s Board of Governors may approve the plan as soon as Thursday. Final details about the NBA’s 2020-2021 season, including a start date and the number of games, are pending.
