One person was taken to Newman Regional Health after a two-vehicle accident in central Emporia Tuesday afternoon.
Emporia police and emergency personnel were dispatched to 902 Merchant Street for a reported injury accident shortly after 3 pm. According to Emporia Police Officer Kenny Rodriguez, a Ford Explorer was backing out of a driveway in the area when a southbound Toyota Yaris did not see it in time and struck the Explorer on the rear of the driver’s side.
A passenger in the Yaris was taken to Newman with undisclosed injuries for observation and possible treatment. No injuries were reported to the driver of the Explorer.
Officer Rodriguez tells KVOE News citations were issued for the accident, however, specific details are not being released. Traffic was briefly blocked in the southbound lane as officers investigated the accident.
