Infrastructure will be the major talking point for Emporia City Commissioners during their regular action session Wednesday.
On the agenda will be consideration of approval for ordinances to annex and rezone a parcel of land located west of 4700 West Highway 50. The request for the ordinances came from Fannestil Meats owner Dan Smoots whose processing plant sits on the land.
The request was previously approved by the planning commission based on recommendations by city staff. According to documents provided to KVOE News, the annexation is contiguous with the Emporia city limits.
Additionally, commissioners will consider approval for ordinances authorizing the city to match the Kansas Department of Health and Environment requirements for water fluoridation. An ordinance to allow the city to utilize AWWA standard polyethylene tubing, acceptance of a grant from the USDA, approval of the HAMMS wast services agreement and an agreement with the Kansas Department of Transportation will also see consideration.
The meeting begins at 1:30 pm Wednesday inside the Municipal Courtroom at White Auditorium. The meeting will be viewable on the city’s Facebook page.
