KVOE online viewers were almost evenly split on their reactions to the Emporia Recreation Commission’s decision to keep the Jones Aquatic Center closed this summer.
Just under 51 percent of residents said they did not approve of the decision in a poll on KVOE.com and Facebook@kvoenews. Forty-seven percent agreed with the decision, with the remaining 2.3 percent unsure. Nearly 9,200 responses were logged in the non-scientific poll.
A separate Twitter-only poll on the same topic had 49 percent in favor of the closure, 43 percent not in favor and 8 percent unsure. That poll had nearly 100 votes.
The Rec Commission decided against opening the Aquatic Center, citing concerns about patron and staff safety as reasons.
