Despite operational adjustments due to COVID-19, the Emporia Public Library still has a plethora of programming planned for the local community this summer.
Through the months of June and July, the library will be offering its annual reading challenges for children, teens and adults through an online platform according to Youth Services Coordinator Lori Heller.
On top of the reading challenge, the library will also be providing a number of exciting programs and performances for children and families to take part in. This includes Mad Science online, numerous virtual storytimes and an online concert series which kicks off Wednesday at noon with children’s songwriter Mr. Stinky Feet.
In addition to the long list of children’s programming, the library is also offering plenty of opportunities for adults including the return of One Book, One Emporia. This year the community-wide reading event which encourages residents to read and discuss a specific book will focus on the memoir of Professor Hope Jahren titled Lab Girl.
Public Services Librarian Molly Chenault says the book was chosen to help “energize” the imagination of readers.
These upcoming programs and events were announced as the library has begun to offer non-contact free pick up for local readers. The non-contact pickup began Monday and will be available Mondays through Fridays from 1 to 4 pm at the library.
