Lyon County Public Health has confirmed the Gym bar in Emporia recently received a citation for violating a public health order.
According to a post from Gym owner Matt Flowers via the establishment’s Facebook page dated Thursday, the Gym opened on Tuesday to serve food when a “fellow bar owner” allegedly reported them to the county for being open. The post goes on to say that the county health inspector came to the business with law enforcement and requested the establishment close down.
According to the post, Flowers refused and was issued a citation but was not forced to close. Flowers would go on to state in the post “we just want to be left alone to run our business so we can pay our bills!”
The offense is punishable by a $500 fine, up to a month in jail or a combination of the two according to a city ordinance passed on Apr. 1.
