As the Lyon County Election Office gets ready for the filing and withdrawal deadline at noon Monday, it is also fielding a lot of applications for mail-in ballots.
County Clerk Tammy Vopat says around 2,900 completed applications have been mailed back to her office. Vopat’s not surprised about recent concerns about the process, even though mail-in ballots have been a voting option for decades.
The deadline to request a mail-in ballot is July 28.
Vopat also says Lyon County continues its preparations for both the primary election Aug. 4 and the general election Nov. 3. At this time, there will be polling places as well as the mail-in option. The federal government recently granted Lyon County close to $29,000 for personal protective equipment. Vopat says Lyon County has submitted expense reports for about $22,000 of that amount.
