Turnout was heavy again at Abundant Harvest for its second free food giveaway of the week.
Vehicles lined up from the food kitchen at 1028 Whitter along 12th to Commercial and south to Bunge, according to ministry director Lee Alderman. Enough people attended to clear out a semi for the second straight event.
When the free food giveaway was announced last week, the goal was to have a giveaway on weekdays through June 26. The demand has altered that plan twice, eliminating the giveaway for Tuesday and now Thursday. The next giveaway will be shortly after 3 pm Friday.
Next week’s schedule will be cut back significantly due to truck availability. Only one semi is set to come to Emporia, and that will be around 3 pm Wednesday. Service will begin shortly after the truck arrives.
The giveaway is a partnership involving Abundant Harvest, Victory Fellowship Church, Foursquare Disaster Relief and 180 Disaster Relief.
