COVID-19 failed to slow down the Saint Patrick’s Committee and its work, even though it rearranged the group’s event schedule.
The committee raised $25,743. Club president Trey Sommers was grateful for the donations, especially with the parade canceled due to the virus.
The money benefits 16 different groups and organizations:
*Camp Hope: $500
*Emporia Public Library: $1,292
*First United Methodist Church: $3,000
*Lord’s Lambs Preschool: $500
*Loving Hands Ministry: $1,200
*Neosho Valley Shrine: $2,000
*Newman Regional Health Teddy Bear Clinic: $1,000
*North Lyon County Veterans Memorial: $2,500
*Read to Your Bunny: $60
*Sacred Heart School: $441
*TFI Family Services: $2,500
*USD 252 Southern Lyon County Honor Flight: $2,800
*USD 253 Emporia Transitions: $450
*Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1980: $2,000
*What’s In Outdoors Fund: $2,000
The committee’s scholarship at Flint Hills Technical College will also receive $3,500 in funding.
Committee members also announced the winners in the annual raffle. Mike Phillips won the 65-inch TV. Barry Martin was the winner of the side of beef. Keith Henstock claimed $200 cash.
