The Fifth Judicial District’s Drug Court will have its 58th graduation ceremony Wednesday afternoon, and Governor Laura Kelly will join the celebration.
Governor Kelly will share words of encouragement during the scheduled Zoom hearing. The current plan has the governor speaking for about five to 10 minutes.
Drug Court started in Lyon County in 2003 to reduce repeat offenses and create a layer of community protection by developing and using community resources. To complete the program, participants must finish all five phases of Drug Court, complete all treatment services, have no new law violations after entering the program, have full-time employment, be drug- and alcohol-free for 120 days, complete an ongoing care plan and submit a graduation application and essay.
Nine people have qualified for graduation Wednesday. The program has graduated over 350 people so far.
The hearing will start at 2:30 pm and will be available on Judge Lee Fowler’s YouTube page. Click here for the link.
