No injuries were reported after Southern Star Central Gas conducted an emergency shutdown of a facility west of Emporia Sunday.
Lyon County Deputies and Emporia Firefighters responded to the 2100 block of Road E, three miles west of Emporia, shortly before 2 pm for a reported gas leak at a Southern Star compressor station. According to Southern Star corporate communications specialist Nathan Isbell there was no gas leak at the facility.
However; Isbell tells KVOE News a malfunctioning fire detection system led to the shutdown at which time gas was released from the station in accordance with company protocols which led to reports of a large white cloud being visible in the area. Isbell and Lyon County Undersheriff John Koelsch tell KVOE emergency crews were called to the scene to assist if needed, however, the shutdown was handled by Southern Star internally.
No injuries or damages were reported.
