Governor Laura Kelly and President Donald Trump were complimentary of combined federal and state efforts to halt the coronavirus pandemic during a special meeting in Washington, DC, on Wednesday.
Kelly singled out a partnership that brought a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention “SWAT team” to southwest Kansas so meatpacking plants could stay open. She also highlighted special housing arrangements for that area of Kansas and also Lyon County.
Kelly and Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson met with Trump on Wednesday, and Trump credited both for their work during the pandemic.
Trump also credited the work of federal and state officials, saying they have worked well together as the pandemic has progressed.
The meeting came two days after Kansas jumped into Phase 1.5 of the state’s COVID-19 recovery process and two days before Phase 2 begins Friday. It also rescheduled the governor’s typical Wednesday news briefing to Thursday. We’ll have that for you at 2 pm on 14 KVOE, 96.9 FM and KVOE.com.
