The Low Income Energy Assistance Program is normally only available during the winter months but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this program has been extended through the month of May.
Recent federal funding has allowed the program to reopen through the month of May, with applications being accepted through May 29.
When speaking with KVOE Kansas Gas Manager of Public Affairs Dawn Tripp says the extension of this program will likely help some who may not normally receive these benefits.
The LIEAP program provides qualified applicants with a one time per year benefit meant to help cover a portion of utility bills. This does mean if you have received LIEAP benefits for the 2020 year already you are ineligible for further benefits.
For more information, to find out if you qualify to receive LIEAP benefits, or to apply visit lieap.dcf.ks.gov or call 800-432-0043.
