Money keeps funneling into — and pouring out of — the Greater Emporia Area Disaster Relief Fund.
On KVOE’s On-Air Chat on Wednesday, United Way of the Flint Hills Director Mickey Edwards highlighted grant amounts to different area nonprofits, including $5,000 to Newman Regional Health.
Money continues going to local businesses as well, and Emporia Main Street Director Casey Woods says the grant committee had some difficult decisions earlier this week.
Over $100,000 in total has now been disbursed, including:
*$1,500 grants are going to Heartland Office Systems, Poehler Mercantile Antique Mall and Trolley House Distillery
*$1,000 grants are going to the SoulRide, AKA Marketing and Promotions, Jacalito, Panaderia Progreso, Prairie PastTimes and Uncommon Threads
*A $750 grant is going to Melissa’s Chop Shop
Emporia Community Foundation Director Becky Nurnberg says over $175,000 in donations have been processed since the fund began.
Over $2,100 was recently donated through the first Greater Emporia Area Disaster Relief Fund Golf Tournament. Residents also continue to buy Thank U signs recognizing the work of local medical staff, emergency responders, law enforcement and others at the heart of the COVID-19 battle.
The Greater Emporia Area Disaster Relief Fund is a collaboration involving the Emporia Community Foundation, Emporia Main Street, United Way of the Flint Hills and KVOE. It serves residents in Lyon, Chase, Coffey, Greenwood, Morris, Osage, Wabaunsee and Woodson counties.
