The Emporia Senior Center has announced plans to reopen — to a degree — next week.
Director Ian Boyd says the center will reopen June 1, but will do so by appointment only. Part of this will be foot care through Hermes Healthcare PA, so seniors seeking nail trims, callus reduction, ingrown nail removal and wound care need to call Hermes at 316-260-4110 to schedule appointments and then go to the Senior Center for the actual visit.
Boyd’s announcement came a few hours after Governor Laura Kelly announced Phase 2 of the state’s COVID-19 recovery plan will start Friday instead of June 1 and Phase 3 could start by June 8. Boyd says the Senior Center will allow more patrons and possibly start bingo whenever Phase 3 begins.
Community centers are allowed under Phase 2, as are museums. The Lyon County Historical Society Board is meeting this week to determine whether to reopen soon or delay the process. The Granada Theatre, meanwhile, is opening to virtual concerts and events soon and will have a soft opening once the state goes into Phase 3.
