Lyon County emergency officials are working to resolve alert message issues that recently developed with its emergency alert partner.
Everbridge sent two false tornado warning alerts to Lyon County clients Monday mid-afternoon, one shortly before 3:40 pm and the other just before 4 pm. Lyon County Emergency Communications Director Roxanne Van Gundy says the county had been receiving the automatically-generated Everbridge alert messages as normal for some time until last week, when Lyon County emergency dispatchers started having to send the alerts manually — right in the middle of Thursday’s extended severe weather and heavy rainfall events.
As far as Monday’s situation is concerned, an early investigation indicates Everbridge changed all the county’s public notices to reflect activity in Ohio. The reasons are currently unclear.
Van Gundy says Lyon County is among several Kansas counties using Everbridge.
