While tornadic activity gains a lot of attention — and it did with severe weather reports Thursday night — flooding is a prolonged concern that is now evident in several ways.
Countywide flood warnings continue for most of the KVOE listening area:
*Flash flood warning for Greenwood County until 12:15 pm
*Flood warning for Lyon County, including Emporia, along with Coffey and Osage counties until 2:45 pm
*Flood warning for north Lyon, Morris and Wabaunsee counties until 3 pm
River-based flood warnings are now up for the Neosho River from Americus to Emporia to Neosho Rapids:
*At Americus, the warning is from 7 pm Friday to 1:40 am Sunday. The river is at 10.7 feet as of 8 am but could go above the 26-foot flood stage Friday evening and crest at 27 feet Saturday morning. Barring additional rain, the river could go below flood stage before sunset.
*At Emporia, the warning is from 3:50 pm Friday to 11:30 am Sunday. The river is at 12.6 feet and climbing. It should go above the 19-foot flood stage by late Friday afternoon and crest at 24 feet Saturday morning. It could go below flood stage late Saturday night.
*At Neosho Rapids, the warning is from 12:15 pm Friday to 7:30 pm Sunday. The river is at 18.5 feet and could go above the 22-foot flood stage by Friday afternoon. The projected crest is 28.3 feet Saturday morning, with the river returning to its banks Sunday morning.
A separate river-based flood warning continues for the Marais des Cygnes near Reading until 3 am Saturday. The river is apparently cresting near 21.5 feet, above the 19-foot flood stage Friday morning and above the prior projection of 19.5. It should go below flood stage before sunset.
Flash flood watches are also up for Lyon, Coffey and Osage counties until noon and for Greenwood County until 7 pm Saturday.
Several Lyon County roads are closed:
*2000 block Kansas Highway 99
*Road H north of Road 160
*Road J from 240 to 246
*2500, 2600 blocks Road N
*2500, 2600 blocks Road P

Elsewhere, the Dunlap area in southeast Morris County is soaked. The town itself is impassable, according to the Morris County Sheriff’s Office, and Road 200 south of Y is also blocked due to high water.
