Governor Laura Kelly and the Kansas Department of Transportation announced Thursday that preliminary engineering work is set to begin on 40 new highway modernization and expansion projects.
These projects are apart of the Eisenhower Legacy Transportation Program (IKE) which is a 10-year plan that was signed by Governor Kelly in April. IKE is a “rolling program” which means projects will be selected every two years instead of every 10.
Kelly says “A robust development pipeline will help jumpstart our economic recovery by creating jobs and allowing the state to take advantage of potential federal stimulus dollars.”
KDOT has said they are not committing to completing all 40 projects, but they can now take the necessary steps to advance work.
There is one project set for 2020 that will affect those in Morris County. Creek bridge just north of Council Grove is set to be “rehabilitated” and shoulders will be added.
