Campaigns for political office are getting back up to speed as the state prepares for a possible move to Phase Two of the COVID-19 recovery effort.
Former lieutenant governor Tracey Mann is among a crowded field hoping to replace First District Congressman Roger Marshall, who is running for US Senate. In a stop in Emporia this week, Mann said trade will be a major issue for him to address if he’s elected.
On agriculture, Mann says coronavirus has further exposed a range of issues facing the industry.
Mann, who served as Jeff Colyer’s lieutenant governor two years ago, says that experience has been valuable as his campaign continues. He also says his “pro-life, pro-ag, pro-gun and pro-Trump” agenda resonates across the district because residents are concerned about what they see is an increased emphasis on socialism in Washington.
Mann plans to develop relationships with members of the House Agriculture Committee and with Congressmen representing urban districts if he’s elected.
Besides Mann, Republicans seeking the seat include Bill Clifford, Jerry Molstad and Troy Waymaster. Democrats in the running are Christy Cauble Davis and Kali Barnett.
