This has been another big week for the Greater Emporia Area Disaster Relief Fund.
On KVOE’s On-Air Chat on Wednesday, it was revealed nearly $18,000 in grants was going to 16 businesses and nonprofit agencies. This brings the running grant amount to almost $85,000 in five weeks, with donations now at almost $170,000. Emporia Community Foundation Director Becky Nurnberg says the campaign has been impressive for several reasons, including its staying power.
On the grants:
*$2,500 goes to Holiday Resort and TFI Family Services
*$1,500 goes to Karma Hair Boutique and Spartan Stop
*$1,000 goes to Beehive Salon, Branded Graphics, Good Guys Auto Works, Hornet Fire Protection, Kids Corner, Ruyi Market and Twin Rivers Winery
*$750 goes to Mis Antojitos
*$500 goes to Dog Tag Pet Wash and Hometown Hair
*$100 goes to Metamorphosis Day Spa
The funds help businesses and nonprofits do their work during the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic, but KVOE General Manager Ron Thomas says it’s clear the fund will be needed for some time and he’s encouraging residents to keep the donations coming.
The Greater Emporia Area Disaster Relief Fund is a collaboration involving the Emporia Community Foundation, Emporia Main Street, United Way of the Flint Hills and KVOE. It serves residents in Lyon, Chase, Coffey, Greenwood, Morris, Osage, Wabaunsee and Woodson counties.
