The David Traylor Zoo’s first Home Town Habitat winner is 7-year-old Shelby Mustain.
The Emporia youngster was honored for her entry during KVOE’s Friday Morning Show by the zoo’s outreach coordinator, Dehlia Sutton.
And on top of that, Mustain included Barbie as the official habitat photographer.
The contest started April 15 and closed May 1. Residents were encouraged to create a rendition of their favorite animal’s habitat, whether as part of a diorama — like Mustain’s entry — or perhaps on a rug or even outside. Sutton says the activity was good because it got kids outside and gave them a chance to learn more about animal habitats.
Mustain won a gift basket including a T-shirt, stuffed animal and a family membership to the zoo.
