During KVOE’s Talk of Emporia Friday, Emporia Rescue Mission Director Lee Alderman summed up the annual Feinstein Challenge with five simple words, “we have been very blessed.
Alderman says the Rescue Mission received $55,000 as a result of the challenge this year which was 92 percent of the mission’s $60,000 goal. Alderman adds that donations are still coming in and he anticipates the final total will be around $65,000.
The Alan Shawn Feinstein Foundation of Cranston, Rhode Island matches local donations dollar-for-dollar up to $60,000 as well as non-perishable food donations at a rate of $1 an item.
A portion of the local donations, $30,000 in matching funds to be exact, came from an anonymous local donor. Alderman says the matching donation couldn’t have come at a more perfect time.
On top of the financial donations, Alderman says the Rescue Mission has also received a tremendous amount of food donations recently which come as the Rescue Mission has seen a tremendous increase in the need for food locally.
Alderman tells KVOE News the funds from the Feinstein Challenge will be put towards basic operations to keep facilities up and running for the remainder of the year. While the Feinstein Challenge has officially wrapped up donations to the Emporia Rescue Mission are still welcome.
Those wishing to make a donation may send them to PO Box 901. Make checks payable to either Abundant Harvest or Emporia Rescue Mission.
