A man who served as Wabaunsee County’s coroner several years ago has been in trouble for allegedly failing to complete those services in accordance with state law. He is now facing more legal trouble for another matter.
The Kansas Attorney General’s Office has been granted a temporary restraining order against Shawn Parcells for his alleged work against coronavirus. Shawnee County District Court says Parcells has formed new businesses and websites, including social media, offering consulting services for coronavirus — which amounted to deceptions that violate the Kansas Consumer Protection Act. Parcells has been offering to go into homes or businesses, perform swabs for testing purposes and also examine the dead to determine if they had tested positive for COVID-19.
Parcells has been banned for over a year from autopsies, forensic pathology and tissue recovery after 14 alleged violations of the Consumer Protection Act and Kansas False Claims Act. The current court order has been added to the prior court decision with a civil lawsuit in the case still being decided. The new order also found Parcells in contempt of court for the third time since court proceedings began in March 2019.
Parcells also faces felony theft and misdemeanor desecration counts in Wabaunsee County after alleged incidents in 2014 and 2015.
